good grief

I am entirely too busy to bother putting any energy into maintaining this silly blog. One day I'll get caught up and updated.

But that day is not today, because I am tired beyond all reasoning and I have a headache that is almost making me see double.

Booooooooo Labs

2 out of 3 of my science labs start this week, BOO. Physics is tomorrow [Phys lab made me want to kill myself, weekly.] and Chemistry is Wednesday. Biology is usually on Monday but there was no class today. Last week, school workload was about a chip-shot size swing. This week it's a half swing. Next week will be a full swing. God help me fore comparing everything to golf..... :]]

Anyhoozles. Red and I made a fabulous chicken pot pie last night. And by 'we' I mean 'him' because he is quite a bit more domestic than I am when it comes to cooking. And it was a WW recipe, so bonus points for healthy. Double bonus points because he liked it. :]

Since I was a complete slacker this weekend, I have a crap-ton of readings to catch up on for class tomorrow.

Back to hating Tuesdays, though. Physics lab really is awful. My professor is the ADD poster child. And he's creepy and his breath stinks. He also happens to be my advisor, who does not advise me well half the time. But whatever, it's only one day a week and the lab reports and stuff get turned in on the day of class so it's not something to worry about for the rest of the week.

Chemistry lab shouldn't be too terrible this year, seeing as I've already taken it once.... I didn't get a satisfactory grade last time, so hopefully things will be different now. This time around, the professor isn't going to be as much of a hardass as the last one, at least I'm hoping.

Bleh, so. Nothing else really exciting.

Bleh

A wasted weekend.

My body is so screwed up with time right now. It feels like day is night and night is day and I sleep accordingly. I took a nap every single day this week, ranging from quick 30 minute cat naps on top of my books to 4+ hours of snoozing. I wouldn't really stay up all that late that night... most nights I'd fall asleep between 1 and 2 and I wake up at 7 so that's a decent amount of sleep. I wake up in the morning feelin' like P. Diddy and I'm good and awake for the most part of the day. Then somewhere around 2 or 3:00, I crash and cannot keep my eyes open. I kept blaming all the naps this week on the fact that school started and my body was just in shock because I was so used to getting 10+ hours of sleep over the break, all on a retarded schedule (try something like 6am-3pm, or thereabouts.)

So yesterday I napped from about 5-8pm. Woke up and went back to bed around 2am. Then I woke up around 6:30 and tossed and turned in bed before coming to terms with the fact that I was not going back to sleep, so I got up around 7. Did not go back to bed [but I got a lot of errands done... it's amazing what you can do early in the morning....:)] Went to my volunteer thing at 1 and it really probably wore me out more than I would want to admit. I was on my feet for three straight hours either standing over a table sorting through medical supplies or walking back and forth from said table across the warehouse to drop the sorted stuff into bins and back. I was hungry when I was done and after I ate, I started getting really sleepy. It was either the food or the Core book I was reading.

Today/tonight, I fell asleep around 6ish. Red called me about an hour later and [I think] got mad at me for falling asleep. He was going out and wanted me to come and I wanted to come until I laid down. But I ended up sleeping from 6-11. Now I'm up but not entirely WIDE awake... I still feel like I could go back to sleep and sleep at least for a couple more hours.

This is so messed up. I think I'm just going to need somebody to be with me and be interacting with me in the afternoons to make sure I stay up. It's pathetic.

Blah. Red's coming to pick me up in a little bit so I can at least go spend the night with him instead of having the WHOLE weekend wasted. I didn't really intend on going out Friday anyway because I hadn't showered and I honestly did want to try to get some homework done for next week. Tonight, I did want to go out. But threw it away. Monday will likely be a bust too because hardly anyone else has work off.

gah.

Physics!

So the first day that I intend on starting a bloggy-study-aid.... physics class gets cancelled. Or rather let out early, but we didn't actually do anything today except do a 'pre-test' kind of thing where we take a fake test with material that will be covered over the semester and they assess how much we don't know about stuff we haven't learned yet. But it was anonymous so it won't be that embarrassing. So we did that quick little packet and by 9:30 the prof. said that we could just take off and we'd reconvene Wednesday. Which led me to remember that it's a three-day weekend.

It was a good day.

Tomorrow will [hopefully] be good. I'm volunteering at this place called MedShare with some of my brothers. It's a group that takes old recycled medical supplies and sorts them out and ships them all over the world. Obviously, all the stuff being organized and shipped right now is being sent to Haiti, so as much as I gripe about having to get up and go volunteer, I'll at least know I'm trying to make a difference to the people down there right now. And it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so it's not like it'll be a compromised Saturday afternoon. :] I have some friends [well really, they're parents of a friend.. part of my Wednesday El Tap family] who will *hopefully* come tomorrow and meet me there. It'll be nice having someone else there who I know and can talk to... I mean my brothers are cool and all, but.... it's just nice to have other familiar faces when I'm out with other strangers and in unfamiliar places.

soooo yeah. Gonna go head to bed now.

January 14, 2010

4 hour naps are BAD.

So... I don't feel good right now. And by feel good, I don't mean that I'm getting sick and have snifflies and a headache or that my stomach hurts. Well my stomach does hurt, but it's been in knots a lot lately, so it's not a new feeling.

I don't know what is wrong, but for the past, like, two weeks I keep getting these spells of having a terrible, terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because I'm nervous about this semester of school. Maybe it's because Red has been acting very detached lately. Maybe I just have a lot of thoughts on my mind. Maybe it's because everything on the news lately has been horrible. Maybe it is a real pain in my tummy because I haven't had a good poo in a while. Maybe it's simply because it's wintertime and everything is all dead and depressed looking. Whatever it is, it comes on faster than a ton of bricks and I have a hard time shaking it off once it's here.

Ugh.

Well, at least it's time now that I can actually start using this blog for the original purpose I had intended... a study aid. I planned on making an entry every day after classes with a briefing about what was discussed in class and stuff. Now that classes are pretty much getting into full swing, I can.

Except I don't really want to go into great detail tonight. It's late and I should be at least trying to go to bed. That four hour nap today has got me all sorts of screwed up, but I need to at least try.

hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Suicide by Emile Durkeim

That is the title of the first book we're reading in Core. I wonder if it's a foreshadowing of how the semester will end because this class BLOWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Here's a thing about Oglethorpe that makes the curriculum so.... "unique," as the administrators put it. We have a set of classes called the Core classes. Not core as in your basic Math, English, History-type set of classes. They literally are called 'Core.' You take one every semester, every year (except 1 semester senior year). The main intent of the Core classes are to further emphasize the liberal arts-ishness of Oglethorpe. To quote the Course Directory, "...this core came to focus on those courses representing competencies that a well-educated generalist ought to have upon graduating from college." Basically, it's just a whole bunch of reading old books by those philosophers with the crazy white hair and then writing lots and lots of papers about them.

Core 101 and 102 are called 'Narratives of the Self,' geared towards freshman year.

Core 201 and 202 are 'Human Nature and the Social Order,' in chronological order, this would be intended for sophomore year. This is the one I'm in because my advisor screwed me over with Core and put me behind a year... [meaning I could have taken 202 and 203 in the 08-09 school year, but didn't because my advisor didn't advise me about what the whole Core curriculum was and I had no clue I even needed them.]

301/302 are Historical Perspectives on the Social Order. 401 is the science Core, Science and Human Nature: Biological Sciences or Physical Sciences. There's also a math Core called Great Ideas of Modern Mathematics (which I took last semester) and a Fine Arts Core, either Art and Culture or Music and Culture, which I've already taken as well.

When I transferred to Oglethorpe, Core hadn't really been thoroughly explained to me and I was just going with the flow at the time so I didn't pursue to question it. My feeble credits let me slide by and get exempted from 101 and 102, so at least we got that going for us... I took 201 in the first session of summer last year, so now I'm in 202. And I'm kind of anxious about it. Summer classes, generally, are more lax and lenient than regular semester classes, granted the amount of material that is to be covered is intensified and squeezed in to a 5 week slot. I found it to be much more enjoyable. Core over the summer was awesome. We had 2 tests and a final (essay format, but that's no big deal because we got the questions a few days before the test was given) and only 1 paper to write [another thing that is pretty typical of Core is that it is VERRRRRY writing intensive. Many classes I hear rumors about write 7-10 papers per semester]. So I figured I lucked up when I got the professor I have because there aren't any writing assignments. :] Except she's apparently shaking up her curriculum this semester and throwing in oral presentations, which make me want to vomit with nerves just thinking about it. But we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Anyway, so this is my very first regular semester Core class so... we'll just have to see how that goes. [first assignment, ready 80 pages of that Suicide book... if I'm feeling frisky, I may try to dub in some extra credit and write up how I plan to do it by the end of the semester..]

kidding.

And Bio is going to be pretty sucky too, it looks like. It makes me miss the professor I had last semester because at least he had his notes and stuff organized into neat little outlines... Not this time around.

But we'll make it work. somehow...

Quiche is not pronounced "quickie", but a quickie is what this post will be

And the title will be a novel.

Anyways. School started today and it went aiiight. My Physics prof. definitely jumped right in where we left off from last semester, resulting in many pages of notes and homework assigned already. I didn't feel like sitting on campus waiting for my Bio lab to start, so I went home and sat around and ate lunch there. Then Bio lab started and it suuuuuuuucked. I should have known it wasn't going to be a ride in the park because Dr. Baube sent out an email over Christmas break [ahem, I repeat, while we were STILL on break] telling us to be in class on Monday because there would be a lab and there would be a quiz [and by quiz, it's take home, open book, the whole spiel.] So it didn't seem terrible, except that we were actually in lab for nearly the full three hours... And the quiz took me for-effing-ever to finish. Bleh. The life of a science major.

Came home. Piddled around. Went to WW and wanted to kill myself after getting off the scale. Went to Kroger to get some breakfast stuffs. Went to WalMart because it's the only place that sells my shampoo. Then came home. Started my homework. Fell asleep on my book. Woke up. Took a shower. Harvested some crops. Got back to my homework. Grew some new grey hairs. Finished homework. Harvested some more crops. Got on FaceBook and saw a message from my mom's asshole ex-boyfriend [which got my blood boiling and it's got me wired awake now]. Went through my agenda and markered in all the quizzes, lab practicals, and exams for Bio [because there's nothing I love more than a diligent professor who actually follows his syllabus... and writing stuff in my agenda. It makes me happy.] And that's about it.

The message did get me steaming a bit. First of all, this guy that she dated seemed okay at first, but she found out he was married and they had a bad breakup and so on. Then she brings this other guy to meet us on Christmas Eve, and he seemed like an okay guy. THEN, this past weekend I was stalking around on her profile and I saw that her marital status read, "Married." WTF, right. So apparently she married this guy, like, last week or something. Didn't tell me or my grandmother or anybody. Now, I love me some spontaneity, but goddamn. To make a long story short, her married ex sent me a message saying that he was sorry that things ended the way they did with her and that he was now single and legally divorced. Then he went on to say that he truly hopes that she's happy being married, even though they loved each other so much. And that she might have made a mistake marrying a convicted felon. Wait, WWWWTTTTFFF?

I don't even know. So much stuff just went through my head when I read that but I don't know what to think about it. I mean, obviously Mr. Polygamy lied before so why wouldn't he lie now?

idk, idk, idk. This is not something I want on my plate right now. I'm trying to reset things in my life, with school and WW and stuff and I just really don't want stuff like this plaguing my mind.

Anyway, that was probably more long-winded than I really wanted to write [and probably extremely scatterbrained] but it's getting hella late and I should try to get to sleep.

:S

I can smell the Roses...

If I didn't have a throbbing headache I would have a little more enthusiasm behind tonight's post. But Alabama won the National Title tonight and it was absolutely fabulous to watch. [that's where my headache came from... I caught myself gritting and grinding my teeth several times...... IT WAS AN INTENSE GAME, SHEESH.]

And it snowed tonight. :) Nothing heavy, by all means.. I mean we're in Georgia. But it was a definite light dusting and it stuck. The only thing is it's gonna suck balllllllls for people who have to drive somewhere in the morning because all that snow and wetness on the ground is gonna freeeeeeeeeze tonight. Parts of my driveway are already frozen. All the public schools got canceled for tomorrow, but I'd be willing to bet money on Oglethorpe remaining open IF classes had started already. I'd bet this because I went through that little problem last winter when it snowed real heavy and iced over. I woke up at my usual time and got dressed and ready to leave and then saw that my driveway was partly covered in slush and the culdesac looked to be covered in ice and slush. Instead of just going awol in all my classes, I wrote all my professors an email [this is still at 7am... there's time stamps on there, so there was no way to get around it] and told them that I was iced in at my house and wouldn't be able to make it to class that day. Excused absence? Not according to them. After all, it's not their fault that some parts of the city got it worse than the others and that I had to commute through it.....

Anyways, so I plan on everything being frozen solid tomorrow morning.

:]

Annnnnd. Not much else to say. Roll Tide, baby!

Holy Santa Claus Shit, I Am So Bored.

I don't think I've ever looked forward to starting school so much.... ever.

But it's not like there's absolutely nothing at all for me to do.....
I could catch up on laundry.
I could clean my room up and reorganize it.
I could be proactive and get started on some Physics work for the chapters I know we'll be doing next week [HAHAHAHAHAA JOKING, JOKING.]
I did do two things that I've had on my list for a couple of days.. I changed the lights in my bathroom and I hung up some pictures on my wall.
I could go import the 50+ CDs into my iTunes.
I could play vidya games.
I could go take a shower.
I could go to Target and get school supplies with my gift card... but I need a shower.
I could go play with my makeup.
I could go to Starbucks and get the white hot chocolate that I've been craving since last night... but it's too cold to leave.
I could just sit on my bum and watch movies all night.

but I'm too lazy to even do that last one.

Last night was interesting. I stayed at Red's house and he fell asleep around 9:45 because he's an old man and, trying to bring some decency back into my sleeping schedule, I fell asleep sometime around 10ish. I woke up an hour later because one of his roommates was walking around upstairs and, since you can hear straight through the ceiling, it woke me up. Then I kept hearing other weird noises so I was pretty much wide awake at that point. I didn't want to turn on the TV because I didn't want to wake up the sleeping beauty, so I got his laptop and was messing around for a while. I looked up the walkthrough videos of the Spyro game I've been playing and finished a couple of those levels. After I got bored with that, I started watching The Hangover and watched the whole thing. Somehow I managed to kill enough time until it was 3:30AM. We were supposed to wake up at 5 to go eat breakfast at Matthew's. I thought to myself, "Brittany [because myself and I are on a first name basis], you should probably just stay up until the alarm clock goes off. If you go to sleep and snooze for only an hour, you'll be a bitch in the morning."

I should have listened to myself. But I went to sleep, sometime around 3:45 and the clock started buzzing in my ear at 5 o'clock on the dot. We ended up snoozing for 45 minutes and skipped Matthew's. After some much needed coffee, I was out the door and into the 6 degree wind chill. I was starving since I hadn't eaten since about 6:30 the night before and was up practically all night, so I went to mcdonald's and got ripped off of a hashbrown :[ Even though I don't need it, I was still upset because I basically paid $5 for a McDonald's biscuit and a coke. whatever.

Anyway, so I got home right before 7AM and went upstairs and was feeling pretty awake from the coffee and the coke I had. I told myself again, I said, "Brittany, don't go to bed because you'll sleep all day and then you'll be up all night again."

Again, I didn't listen to myself and I wound up in bed, asleep by 8. I woke up at 1 and should have made myself get out of bed. I mean that's roughly 5 hours of sleep and half the day was gone anyway. But no, I slept for another two hours and rolled out of bed at 3pm.

So. Being awake for only 5 hours right now, yes I am wide awake.

But I beat the main boss on Spyro, chyah! But I've only completed 93% of the game, thanks to the impossibly difficult flight levels that I'll probably never finish.
