8:23 am
70 % chance of snow tomorrow. Georgia should just go ahead and close all the schools that it could affect because we just cannot handle a flurry! Oh noes!
I'm ready for summer.
Bio test ahhhhhhh! Annnnnnd GO!

February 10, 2010
It's Oglethorpe Day! Hooray!
10:18am
I need to get a move on on my chemistry lab. It's due at 1:45 and I haven't quite finished yet. I'm going to be kicked out of the library at 11:45 because it's Oglethorpe Day and on OU day, all the buildings and classes get randomly shut down/cancelled for about 3 hours. Except on a lab day, labs just get pushed back 15 minutes so instead of starting at 1:30, it's at 1:45. Awesome.
This particular OU day is special, because the school is celebrating it's 175th year.
At 11:45, they're going to ring the carillon bells 175 times, and then at noon there's the Petrels of Fire race. It's where some of the more in-shape and non-athletically challenged students run around the Quad and see if they can finish before the 12th toll of the bells on the noon chime. You wouldn't think that it would be that difficult because the Quad is roughly the size of a football field, maybe a little bigger, and I would guesstimate that there are about 2ish second between each chime, so at noon you have about 24ish seconds to run the Quad. Okay maybe that is a little bit ridiculous, but I've never seen it before so I don't know. I skipped OU day last year because I don't like standing alone, but I feel even more awkward with these people... I've never really become close friends with anyone here so it's just kind of weird. Idk. That makes no sense.
Then at 12:15, we're going to be, and I quote, "serenaded by a bagpiper, down to the performing arts center," to listen to Ted Turner talk about something. Idk if I can sit and listen to an old man talk for that long... I didn't know an old man COULD sit and talk that long. At 1:00, a "Georgia-themed" lunch is being hosted in the cafeteria, but I will probably skip that because I don't want to risk not having time to wait in line and then eat before I have to go to class.
****
12:37 pm
Well I had to skip Ted Turner. I mean I've seen the dude before at dinner last summer at the Atlanta Fish Market. He had a 20 year old hot piece of candy wrapped around his right arm and they were leaving, so it's not like I've never seen him before.
But instead, I'm stuck in the Goslin lounge writing my chemistry lab report. And this time, it's not because I procrastinated all morning. I got down to the last of the four [full, top to bottom] pages and realized that I was using the wrong mother-effing data. So I had to start all over. I decided to type it this time because when I get rushed and have to write shit, I mess up everything. So I got the title page done, all 5 lines of it, and then the librarian came up to me and told me that they were closing for OU day and I had to leave.... Fuck. So I went to the Quad, froze my ass off [[by the way, it's been snow flurrying alllll day] and watched the Petrels of Fire race while I awkwardly stood looking for people I knew. Then it was over (the guy was about 10 feet away from the end of the line when the last bell chimed :( ) and then I ventured down to the lounge and here I am now. The lab is done and I'm about to go print it off, as well as all my bio stuff for the MAJOR test I have tomorrow, and go get lunch somewhere and study a bit.
I need to start graphing my mood swings during the day. It started off pretty good, went to panic mode in a matter of about ten minutes, and now it's climbing back up to perky.
bipolar?

3:57 pm
Okay yeah, the mood has definitely been dampened now. We screwed up our Chem lab today. At least I'm pretty sure we did. My partner didn't seem to think so. But there's no way we could have gotten all the stuff done for it and be done before every other group. I kind of stalled around a bit afterwards to see if any other group would get done and one did so I breathed a little bit.
But I still don't think we did it right. I didn't feel like getting fussed at by the TA, even though he's a harmless little old man whose bark is worse than his bite.
So whatever.
I really am going to start tracking my moods throughout the day. I'm gonna get a little notebook and it's gonna be my mood notebook. Sorta like my food notebook... which reminds me that I need to write my lunch in it for today.
I just got done walking around campus for my daily walkaround.
I think I'm gonna go do my Chem lab report due next week and get it over with so I'm not stuck frantically trying to finish it an hour before it's due next Wednesday. And I can see if and how bad we messed up. Then it's studying for Bio until 11am tomorrow morning.
El Tap tonight! Woo!

10:19 pm
Oh my god Biology test in the morning. I think I may be going into pretest freakout stage, but I shouldn't be. I know this stuff. I've been reading and skimming over everything for nearly a week. I mean I haven't really been hitting at it as hard as I should have been for the past couple of days. But I know this stuff. I know it.
Ugh.
ps. I was totally right about the lab. I got a really, really bad number at the end.
Bad, as in, the number we were supposed to get was something around 0.3845 something. The number we got was -0.823.
Yup.
The week is not quite over. And once it is, I still have a Core test next Tuesday and a Physics test at some point next week. Physics homework is likely to be due this Friday. There'll be another set due sometime next week too. Then the week after that, I have a lab quiz and then a lecture quiz on back to back days for Bio.
ohhhhhhhhhhhh boy.

Monday
[periodic updates throughout the day]
10:20am
Goals:
- track meals
> breakfast, yes.
> lunch, yes
> snack, yes
> dinner, yes
- walk around campus/ the quad
> check; I got about 20 minutes in today, starting from the basement of Goslin, walking across the quad, down to Emerson, up the stairs, out the back entrance, up the hill to NoSo [my old dorm.. oh the memories], back down the hill past Phase II and Dempsey, around the side path [by the bamboo and water stream.. kinda relaxing], back up the hill to the Quad, cross the front of the library, into basement of Goslin, up three flights of stairs to 3rd Goslin, down the hallway, down the other three flights of stairs back to the basement, across the parking lot to my car to change out books, back across the parking lot, up the side stairs of Goslin, across the Quad to the library, up 2 flights to the 3rd floor of the library and here I am now.
ps. I pretty much live my life in/around the Goslin building, aka where all of the science majors are 24/7. All 6 of my classes are in Goslin, and 4/6 are in the Goslin basement.
pss. I figured carrying around my backback would only help, too. I mean the weight of it is pretty much equivalent to carrying a small child on my back. Plus, it makes me look like I actually have a purpose for meadering around campus in between classes.
- drink water before lunch
> well I left the house in a hurry and forgot a bottle, but there was one in my car and it got cold enough last night to keep it cold, so I have it now.
annnnd. that's about it for now.
5:27pm
Pretty much, I had to beg my dad for ten bucks so I could go to Kroger and get deodorant and have lunch money for tomorrow.
For lunch on M-W, I have to eat lunch near campus, especially on Tuesday because I only have a little bit of time between classes to go grab food. Monday and Wednesday, I could get by with going to Food to Go and getting something, except that means I'd have to make the 20 minute trek away from school and into Clarkston, then turn around and go right back to campus. Driving requires gas. Gas requires money.
I drive no less than 40 miles per day. That's how long it is round trip to school and back. And it's not including the distance it takes to go run errands or get lunch (I mean typically that's less than 2 or so miles) or if I have running around to do near the house. Take 40 miles per day and multiply it by 5 days per week and you get 200 miles per week. Getting into the specifics, my gas tank only holds 13 or so gallons of gas. I only get 15 or so miles to the gallon. Do that math and you get around 200ish miles on a full tank. On a FULL TANK. I usually get about $20 every time I ask for gas money, which gets me [if I'm lucky] between 1/2 and 3/4 of a full tank. So at best, I can get maybe a little over 100 miles out of every fill up. That's two and a half days' worth of driving. Out of the five days that I have class, one tank of gas will get me two and a half of them.
So it's either get bitched at about asking for gas money so often or get bitched at about asking for lunch money to eat out.
I get that money is tight and everything right now, but cut me some fucking slack. There are some things in my life that I cannot help. Commuting is one of them. The price you pay for commuting comes in gas and the deletion of a meal plan [like that would even be a choice, the cheapest one they have is damn near $1000 per year.]
ugh.
9:33pm
Red won't pick up his phone and I'm starting to turn into the freak-out-girlfriend.
It's way past 9 and he's never out this late on a weeknight, let alone this late.
argghghghhghghghg.

Goals, take two.
Goals for the week:
- be humble
- track meals every single day
- walk around the Quad every day for at least 10-15 minutes [unless it's raining... then go climb the stairs in Lupton or Goslin and pretend I have a purpose for wandering the halls]
- grab a bottle of water when I leave the house and have the whole thing finished before lunch
Goals for the semester/next couple of months:
- get at least a 3.0 [it won't really boost my cumulative gpa all that much, but it'll make me feel like I can actually do something]
- don't skip Physics [I already busted that one once, but no more... it's just really hard not to do when he doesn't have an attendance policy.]
- quit status-updating so goddamn much on facebook. nobody cares that you flipped your mattress by yourself or that you almost ran over a possum on the way home.
Goals for the next couple of minutes:
- go turn off the light
- get in bed
- go to sleep

February 5, 2010
I mean...
Sometimes on a Friday night, I just want to do nothing but sit at home in my pajamas and watch movies all night. Especially after there's been crappy, cold weather out lately. And that I'd have to take a shower first. And that I don't have gas.. even if I had the balls to ask my parents for even more gas money, I wouldn't go get it tonight. [with the exception of verrrrrrrry rare occasions, I never get gas at night because it's cold at night this time of year, and most nights I'm not really in the mood to get raped] Besides, the only thing I would do is drive into Tucker, go to Roy's house, watch all the idiots play beer pong until past midnight, then probably wind up driving back to my house to drop my car off and then go to Red's house and have to listen to him whine and complain because I want to go to sleep and all he wants is my pants off. Then I would fall asleep and sleep on and off every couple of hours because his bed is very uncomfortable.
It's just one of those times where I'd kinda sorta just rather stay at home.
I've just been really grumpy-like lately. It's not a full-blown grump-fest but I've definitely not been feeling myself lately. I think I'm having some issues right now because I still have not gotten back on track with my diet and have been feeling very... blagh lately. I mean I can go on one week and off the next. It's really hard to deal with because I started off doing so good. I dropped the first 15 pounds so fast and I was loaded with motivation. It went away over winter break and I just still haven't been able to get back together. My main problem is the lack of exercise. Every day that I come home early, I tell myself on the ride home that I'm gonna go home and grab my tennis shoes and go to Stone Mountain. It's pathetic that I live, literally within walking distance of the park, and I never go over there. I have a free pass to get in too. So why don't I go? I just don't seem to have any motivation to drive me to do anything. I can usually talk myself out of going either because I say I have too much homework to do [but then I sit at my desk and play on FaceBook all afternoon] or else it's too cold or too rainy or too something else. Then I think about my Wii Active and how much I really got into that when I first got it. But the sensor to the console broke a while back and I don't have any money right now to replace it.... I think using an excuse that says I don't exercise because I don't have a video game is the most pathetic it can get.
Sooooo yep.

Tuesdays
I hate Physics lab.
Physics lab occurs on Tuesday.
Today is Tuesday.
Therefore, I hate Tuesdays.
Prime effing example of why I hate Physics lab happened today.
We were doing an experiment where we measure the mechanical heat energy value or something or another. In order to do that, we had to set up a calorimeter and run an electrical current through it and measure the temperature change, yada yada. So we get to doing it and it takes about 10 minutes to run the first trial. We didn't get terribly good results, so the prof. told us to run it again and see if we get better results. One of my partners suggested just manipulating to data to make the numbers work better. I said that it would probably not be a good idea because the prof. was kinda-sorta standing there watching us and would probably know if we didn't actually do the experiment again.
So, we get to setting up trial 2. Now, the setup for this experiment was kind of a pain in the ass because you had to fill up the can with no more than 200g of water, and the water had to be running out of the faucet for a couple of minutes because it was supposed to be below room temperature. Once you wait for the water to cool off, you pour some in and weigh it and hope it isn't more than 200g. If it is, you trial and error it until you get less than 200g. Then you put the thermometer in the water and wait til the temperature stabilizes, then put it in the calorimeter and start up the current. You have to fiddle with the voltage and current so the two numbers multiplied are less than a certain number of watts and by then, the wire inside the water will have started heating up and, thus, the water heats up. When you put power to a wire it gets hot and if that hot wire is submerged in cold water, it will TYPICALLY start getting warm, so you have to quickly find the watt power and then turn off the machine until you're ready to start the experiment. It's not rocket science and it's something that the prof. reiterated several times before we got started.
But my partners did not listen the 2nd time around, apparently. Because one of the idiots left the machine on and did not tell us so the water temperature started rising and we had not started the stopwatch yet. So we then had to pour out the water and start the whole prepping process over again.
So the third time around, we finally got it going again and still got shitty results. So the other girl started going through the numbers and changed them around until it got us good results.
Manipulated data in a lab is in violation of the Honor Code that Oglethorpe upholds and I'm just not quite sure that I agree with doing that. But the rest of the group doesn't seem to mind.
Every week I try my best to let some slack go with the other partner because he's from South America and has an extremely strong accent, so I know there's some kind of language barrier with this stuff. But I mean god damn. He can be extremely annoying, either by interrupting you while you're cranking out numbers and data or by fucking around with the equipment and messing with stuff.
This is ranty and rushed and I have a lot to say about why I hate this class so much but I can't quite type as fast as I can think and everything just kind of comes up like word vomit and everything gets all mixed up.
But that, in a nutshell, is why I hate Tuesdays.
Blah.

Blah.
